A Hair Salon Is No Longer The Place Where You Get A Cut

By Marci Glover

The vast majority of people adhere to a strict personal grooming regime. They like to look good and when they do they feel good as well. Many people even opt for drastic measures in order to achieve the physical results they desire. They have implants, they have face lifts and they even go as far as to re sculpt their bodies surgically. This is expensive, however. Still, most people can afford a visit to a hair salon.

Unisex salons such as those found in the prime shopping districts of Nashville TN now seems to be the universal standard but this was not always so. In the past no man would be seen dead in such a place. Instead, they went to traditional barbershops. Male needs have changed, however. They no longer simply want to look neat. Nowadays they are interested in specific styles and some men go to great lengths to achieve the exact look that they desire.

Most modern salons no longer only employ coiffeuses. They have grown into establishments that offer a wide variety of grooming treatments. Clients can enjoy a pedicure and manicure, a relaxing massage and even some time on a sun bed. Hair removal and botox treatment are also becoming common options at these establishments. Many salons also offer a wide variety of grooming products and other cosmetics.

There are good reasons why so many people look forward to and immensely enjoy their regular visits to their favorite parlors. They feel good to be the center of attention and they see the session as a reward to themselves. Psychologists agree that anyone that feels good about his or her looks is also more likely to exude confidence and to develop a healthy self image.

Another reason why so many people flock to parlors is because modern society places a high premium on the physical appearance of people. Those who do not look well or dress well are at a disadvantage to those who do. Paying for grooming sessions and good quality products is therefore often seen as an investment towards success at the work place and acceptance in social circles.

Those days when clients paged through aged fashion magazines to choose a new style are long gone. Parlors now use sophisticated computer technology to help their clients choose the style that will suit them best. Clients can view a variety of computer generated images of themselves sporting different styles. Technology is even used to analyze skin type in order to select the most suitable skin care products and cosmetics.

The relationship between the stylist and the client is often very personal. Clients use their stylists as sounding boards and they often share secrets, fears and hopes with them. It is no wonder that so many stylists attain a stage where they boast their own personal client list. In many cases their clients will follow them if they change location.

There is no reason why people should not want to look good. They want to be fashionable and they are willing to pay for the privilege. Having a good hair style is no longer the ultimate grooming statement. These days clients demand a versatile and personal service.
